Always Marshall Fields on State Street to Chicagoans, never Macys. The green clock on the corner and the plaque on the side, one of my first and favorite designs from downtown.
The black design on wood gives the impression of branding, the image becomes part of the wood and allows the grain to show through. A great texture to add to any living space that mixes metal and wood.
The wood panels are printed using a process called dye sublimation. I use sublimation inks and transfer the image to the wood panel using a heat press. At the high temperatures, the ink solids turn to a gas and are absorbed into the coating of the wood. Once the piece cools, the inks are trapped inside and the image becomes part of the material. Since nothing is printed on the surface, this image is completely heat safe and water proof and can be used as a hot plate as well as decorative wall art.
